Camping Tent Heater
Nobody likes to be freezing cold when camping in cold
weather, and for this the camping tent heater is the
answer.
While the outdoors men of yesteryear got by with camp fires
for warmth, the savvy cold weather camper can enjoy warmth and
comfort in a standing camp with a propane gas powered camp
heater.
Standing camps for hunters, trappers and other outdoor men
and pioneer types used wood stoves and ovens which were
incorporated into their heavy duty canvas tents, or wooden
cabins.
You can still buy canvas wall tents which can fit a
heat-proof square of steel or other material into the roof so a
metal stove-pipe chimney can be used. It must be kept well
clear of the canvas, or it will burn your tent down. These are
specialist tents for professional guides and outfitters, and
are not cheap.
Most campers prefer the portability and convenience of a
propane tent heater instead. In most cases they don't have to
purchase a specially-made camping tent.
Coleman make a gas catalytic heater called the Black Cat,
which can burn propane gas fuel to give you warmth, and it does
so without any flame. As far as I can ascertain, this reduces
the risk of fire, but not the risk of being gassed to death.
Remember, any stove or heater operated inside your
tent can create carbon monoxide, an invisible,
odorless gas which kills people.
Zodi get around the carbon monoxide problem by placing their
heater just outside your tent. They then use a pair of
ducted air hoses to channel the warm air inside the tent. The
Zodi tent heater includes an electric blower fan which is
powered by a 12 volt car battery. They also have larger
industrial strength models for government and military
applications.
Danger — Carbon Monoxide!Many campers
have been asphyxiated from fuel fumes and/or
carbon monoxide poisoning while trying to keep
warm in their tent in winter. So make darned
sure you have adequate ventilation, and always
follow the tent heater manufacturer's
recommendations and installation
instructions.
Carbon monoxide is created when fuel is burned
where there is insufficient oxygen for
complete, efficient burning. When this happens,
the fire or stove gets the oxygen, not you...
And what's more, the poisonous carbon monoxide
gas (which you can't even smell) changes your
red blood cells so they no longer carry oxygen
around your body. You will die from lack of
oxygen.
You have been warned!
